FC Bayern – Theses on the draw against VfB Stuttgart: Nianzou can no longer break into Bayern

FC Bayern’s 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart showed that world champion Serge Gnabry had to hold on at all costs and, if necessary, sell Leroy Sane. Tanguy Nianzou doubts he will make the breakthrough. And with the current defense, it will be difficult in the coming year. The theses of the game.

1. Bayern must definitely renew with Gnabry

Three shots on goal, three assists, forced to equalize 1-1 (own goal from Mavropano) and start the 2-1 with the penultimate pass. No doubt: Serge Gnabry was one of FC Bayern’s best attacking players in the 2-2 victory against VfB Stuttgart. A contract extension with the national player beyond 2023 is mandatory for the record champions for three reasons.

  1. Gnabry isn’t immune to some slacking either, but overall he still delivers. He has scored at least ten goals in each of his six Bundesliga seasons so far. He currently has a healthy 27 points in 44 competitive games. His 14 goals in the Bundesliga this year means a new personal best.
  2. Gnabry is of elementary importance for the climate of the cabin. Kimmich, Goretzka, Gnabry, Süle and Sane are considered great friends. With Süle, a popular member of the gang is already leaving the Borussia Dortmund club at the end of the season. Nobody wants to imagine that Gnabry could also pack his bags besides the centre-back. “Serge played well today and he’s an exceptional player. He’s a very important part of our team, much more than a teammate,” enthused Goretzka when asked. SPOX and OBJECTIVES. And further: “He has become a good friend over the years. It’s no secret when I say that I’ve known him myself since I was a boy. We grew up together. Of course, I hope for an extension from him.”
  3. Sporty AND economical, there is hardly any alternative to Gnabry anyway. On each occasion, the bosses stress that they will have to tighten their financial belts in the future. Bayern should be digging deep into their pockets for successor candidates like Leipzig’s Nkunku or Ajax Amsterdam’s Antony. An extension with Gnabry, also at the absolute best salary, seems cheaper.

According to sports photography FC Bayern Gnabry recently made an improved offer. He should therefore be able to earn 17 to 19 million euros. For comparison: he would currently receive around eight million euros per season. With the pay rise, he would reach the top earners around Kingsley Coman (allegedly around €17m) and Sane (allegedly around €20m). Gnabry has yet to accept the offer.

“We have limits,” says sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic when asked about Gnabry’s contract situation. “It’s up to him. The boy is great, I like him a lot. I would love to keep him.” However, Bayern haven’t set a deadline for the right-winger like they did with David Alaba. Instead, further discussions should follow. Salihamidzic: “Serge has to feel comfortable. We had a lot of discussions with him and his management – we are ready to continue and we will too. Of course, we hope we can do it.”

If finances are the sticking point in the end, officials should think about selling Leroy Sane – in order to keep Gnabry with the funds that are then released. Because unlike Gnabry, Sane no longer appears in his low form, which has been going on for months…
