Sussexes hold back: Royals congratulate Archie on his third birthday

The Sussexes are holding back
The royal family congratulates Archie on his third birthday

Little Archie is three years old. His great-grandmother, grandfather and uncle are congratulating him on his birthday – but there are no new photos to be seen. The distance from Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan couldn’t be clearer.

The great distance between Prince Harry’s family and his royal relatives in Britain has rarely been more apparent. On his son Archie’s third birthday, his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and father Prince Charles and brother Prince William congratulated them via the Instagram story, but the photos in the posts all look pretty familiar.

The birthday photos that came with the congratulations aren’t exactly new. The reason is obvious: Since the removal of Harry and Duchess Meghan from the top rank of the Royal Family, there have been no official family reunions with everyone involved. And so heir to the throne Charles and the Cambridges were forced to use the same images as last year’s congratulations. The Queen also dodged an old cliche of meeting her great-grandson in 2019.

Harry and Meghan have yet to post congratulations

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who sits seventh in line to the official throne, was last in the UK in autumn 2019 before his parents first moved to Canada and then to the US. The Sussexes initially did not post birthday wishes for their eldest child. Last year, they posted a new photo of their son with his back to the camera on their Archewell homepage for his special day.

After the so-called “Megxit”, Harry and Meghan remained completely out of public view for a long time. But the tide has been turning for a few months: Because the family once again reveals some intimate details of their daily life. Just recently, Harry and Meghan shared their daughter Lilibet’s first steps: “Her biggest goal right now is to keep up with her brother – she only took her first step a few days ago!” the prince said Harry to the American magazine “People” and called himself. a “proud father”.
