As SV Waldhof announced, the club and Glöckner “had agreed not to extend the contract which expires at the end of the season”. There had been speculation about the coach’s future for a long time. Glöckner had trained the people of Quadratestadt since 2020. Under his guidance, the former Bundesliga side finished 8th at the end of the 2020/21 season. This season, Mannheim are in 5th place with two games to play, but although they have long been close to the top places, they have no chance of promotion.

“I had an incredibly enjoyable and successful time at Waldhof Mannheim. Now I look forward to the remaining three meetings with our outstanding fans and the possibility of winning the State Cup for the third time in a row,” says the outgoing coach. quoted as saying in a statement.

What happens next for the Bonn native is still open. Prior to his commitment to Mannheim, the former professional worked as a head coach at Chemnitzer FC and Viktoria Köln. Previously, he gained experience in various roles, including at FC St. Pauli and Eintracht Frankfurt.

His successor at SV Waldhof is still unclear. “With a new manager, we now want to take the next steps based on the existing good starting point,” says chief executive Tim Schork of the plans for the ambitious Third Division club, which would like to return to the Second Division in close future. “We will now have intensive discussions with several candidate coaches. I have drawn up a list which we will work through meticulously. Our decision for the right coach who supports our ambitious goals will not be a hasty decision.”
