Ever since Jürgen Klopp took over from Liverpool FC, a Bundesliga star has always been the center of the former world manager’s attention. In 2016 he brought in goalkeeper Lloris Karius from Mainz, 2018 Naby Keïta from Leipzig, 2020 Thiago from Bayern and last year Ibrahima Konaté again from Leipzig.

Klopp wants two Austrians

Klopp would like to sign two Bundesliga players this summer. It is said that he has been interested in Konrad Laimer for several weeks. However, many other top clubs are also courting the 24-year-old, including Bayern and Dortmund. RB are also hoping for a contract extension for the Austrian.

As ‘Sport Bild’ report, Klopp has also been keeping tabs on Laimer’s national team colleague Christoph Baumgartner. The 22-year-old is under contract with TSG Hoffenheim until 2025 and has caught the eye there with some solid performances.

He has appeared in 27 Bundesliga games this season, scoring six goals. A year earlier, he had already excelled in the Europa League (five points in eight games). Baumgartner was already linked to Liverpool FC at the time, but had recently extended his contract.

30 million euros: Baumgartner should have an exit clause

With Hoffenheim again in danger of missing out on the international starting places with two games left and five points adrift, a move to the Reds would be Baumgartner’s chance to play at international level again. However, Klopp must also outplay several rivals at Baumgartner: Sevilla FC and Leicester City have already officially requested.

According to the report, Baumgartner’s current employer has little to say about the change. Apparently, the Austrian was promised a €30m release clause when he extended his contract a year and a half ago.

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have signed Nico Schlotterbeck (22) from league rival SC Freiburg. The centre-back has been given a five-year contract with BVB until 2027.
