Significant decrease in the number of participants in the corona demonstrations in Lower Saxony

The Lower Saxony police registered significantly fewer protests against corona protection measures in April than in previous months. About 13,000 participants were counted at 242 meetings, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior in Hanover. It was 54 people per event. A month earlier, there were approximately 30,600 attendees at over 500 meetings. In February, more than 52,000 participants were counted, in January even almost 90,000. For April, the Ministry of the Interior estimates the costs at just over half a million euros on the basis of approximately 7,200 hours of work. In March, these figures were even higher, with approximately 30,000 hours of work and more than 2.1 million euros in personnel costs.

Incidence in Lower Saxony drops to 833.6

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 15,513 new infections in Lower Saxony today. The seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week, is 833.6 and has therefore decreased – yesterday the incidence value was 892.9. The RKI recorded 53 additional Corona-related deaths. The death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 8,842 nationwide.

RKI records 1,075 new infections for Hamburg

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 1,075 new infections have been recorded in Hamburg. Five other people died of an infection in the Hanseatic city. The seven-day incidence value of new infections per 100,000 population the RKI shows 545.1 today. According to Hamburg’s social authority, the seven-day incidence in the Hanseatic city was 885.7 yesterday.

From Hamburg social authority stopped publishing Corona data daily since the beginning of May, the NDR will publish the current RKI figures in the corona ticker in the future. From now on, the Hanseatic City Health Authority will publish a seven-day incidence update and hospital occupancy once a week – on Tuesdays. These data and values may differ from those of the RKI.

National corona incidence drops below 600 for first time since January

The national seven-day incidence of new corona infections fell below 600 for the first time since January. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) puts today’s value at 591.8 (previous day: 632.2 / previous week: 887.6). As further reported by the RKI, citing data from health authorities, the number of new infections reported within 24 hours was 106,631. However, experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not registered by the RKI – due to the overload of work of the health authorities and the fact that not all infected people undergo a PCR test. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to distortion of individual daily values. The RKI also announced that 241 new deaths related to the corona virus had been reported in the past 24 hours. The total number of corona deaths recorded in Germany is 135,942.

DKG: The number of Covid patients in clinics is falling

According to the German Hospital Society, the number of Covid patients in German clinics has fallen to its lowest level since the start of the fourth corona wave with the Delta variant. CEO Gass told Editorial Network Germany that there are currently 1,300 Covid patients in intensive care units nationwide – fewer than since September last year. With the decline in the number of infections, the staff shortage situation is also easing somewhat, Gass pointed out. According to him, clinics can now gradually catch up with previously postponed treatments.

Schleswig-Holstein: Shortened isolation and no more quarantine for contact persons

In Schleswig-Holstein, people infected with corona only have to be quarantined for five days from today. The country directs its decree towards the new Recommendations from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). A free test after the deadline is therefore no longer necessary, but is strongly recommended. Additionally, infected individuals must be asymptomatic for at least 48 hours before isolation can end.

It is strongly recommended that contact persons, for example from the household and school, reduce contacts independently and check them daily with a rapid antigen test. However, there is no longer a quarantine requirement. Different rules apply to employees in the health sector, retirement and care homes and integration support structures.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will implement the RKI recommendation from Friday, Lower Saxony also wants to adjust its rules this week.

In a country comparison, Schleswig-Holstein recorded the second highest value after Lower Saxony. The number of new infections was 5,664, which is a decrease of 224 from the previous day.
