Amber Heard’s allegations have apparently resulted in a heavy financial loss for Johnny Depp. At least that’s what Depp’s agent Jack Whigham said in court, according to media reports. Heard accused her then-husband Depp of domestic violence after they split in 2016. The actor is suing his ex-wife for defamation. The trial was just entering its second week in Virginia.

Depp’s fees have dropped massively since 2016

Since 2016, Depp’s fees have dropped massively. According to reports, Whigham calculated this in the courtroom. In 2017, the actor earned 35 million US dollars (about 33.3 million euros) with three major studio films and two independent productions. According to the agent, in 2018 it was only 4 million (3.8 million euros) that Depp earned with two small films.

One of the two productions, the drama “Minamata”, ran into financial difficulties due to damage to Depp’s image. The film could only be saved if the actor waived some of the costs.

Due to Heard’s allegations, Depp also lost the lead role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, according to his agent. Disney reportedly promised Depp 23 million (22 million euros) plus a profit share for the film.

The allegations are a ‘death sentence’ for Depp’s career

Whigham called Heard’s allegations a “death sentence”, a “disaster for Mr. Depp in the Hollywood community”. Since 2020, he has not been able to welcome his client in a film.

For Amber Heard, too, the process leads to image damage and possible professional inconvenience. For example, a petition calls for the actress to be removed from the planned superhero sequel “Aquaman 2.”

This is what Depp v. listen

Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million (46 million euros) over a 2018 article she published in The Washington Post. In it, she claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. She did not mention her ex-husband by name. Depp claims that the position nevertheless ruined his career, damaged his reputation and cost him a lot of money as a result. According to Variety, Heard reportedly filed a $100 million counterclaim against her ex.

Depp and Heard started dating in early 2012 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary. Hollywood stars got married in 2015. The marriage lasted only 15 months. The actor lost a libel suit against ‘The Sun’ newspaper in Britain in 2020. The newspaper had described Depp in an article as a “wife beater”. Depp has denied all allegations of domestic violence.
