All about gameplay, release and content

Warcraft: Arclight Rumble is a new mobile game from Blizzard that is primarily aimed at appealing to strategy fans. After the first introduction, the game sounds like a mixture of Tower Defense, Hero Collector and Clash Royale. Above all, well-known Warcraft characters should play a role. It is the first Warcraft strategy game since the release of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne in 2003.

What exactly is Arclight Rumble? The game is about assembling an army made up in part of well-known Warcraft characters. With this, you then face different challenges:

  • There are over 70 single player missions
  • There will be weekly and monthly challenges consisting of multi-part dungeons or larger raids
  • Some of the missions can be done cooperatively with friends
  • There will be competitive challenges
  • You can organize yourself into guilds

For example, early videos show how players can enter a mission and then place their army piece by piece to take on even bigger enemies and raid bosses. As a player, you decide which miniatures belong to your army, how often you take the miniatures with you, and where you place them on the battlefield.

Synergies should play a role in this regard.

Along with regular army creatures, there will also be familiar heroes to collect and villains to battle. Grommash Hellscream, Rend Blackhand and Jaina Proudmoore have already been mentioned.

There should be a total of 5 factions: Alliance, Horde, Blackrock, Undead and Wild Animals.

The fights are somewhat reminiscent of attacking another village in Clash of Clans. But you also have your own cannon which is attacked by enemies and must be defended. Rounds can also end when time is up.

Overall, everything should be “chaotic” and “entertaining”, as the developers point out.

When is Warcraft: Arclight Rumble released? The game is slated for release in 2022, although there is no exact date. However, the release will take place for Android and iOS and you can already register in advance in the Play Store (via GooglePlay).

The closed beta is expected to start “soon” in some regions.

Blizzard promises a true Warcraft experience

What does Blizzard say about Arclight Rumble? Mobile gaming should be easy to learn but hard to master. Blizzard repeatedly stresses that the game was meant to offer a “true Warcraft experience” and was put together by developers who have been loyal to the franchise for a long time.

The game’s two game directors are Adam Kugler and Tom Chilton:

  • Adam Kugler has worked for Blizzard since 2012 and was, among other things, Lead Class Designer for World of Warcraft until the Battle for Azeroth expansion.
  • Tom Chilton was the Game Director of World of Warcraft and has been with Blizzard since 2004. He worked on WoW until Legion and then supported Warcraft: Arclight Rumble.

CTO Monte Krol has been with Blizzard since around 2000 and played a significant role in the development of Warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. The experience is definitely present in the team.

As a result, there should be plenty of allusions to the events of Warcraft and WoW and also the locations therein. However, the game also works without prior knowledge of the Warcraft world.

What about monetization? Basically, Arclight Rumble will be a Free2Play game. Nevertheless, there is a big discussion about monetization.

Games like Clash Royale in particular have a bad reputation because you can use money to expand your base and troops faster and gain real advantages.

What exactly Warcraft: Arclight Rumble monetization looks like is not yet known. According to GameStar, Blizzard would have ensured that only the progression and not the characters would be monetized. It should be possible to fill some progress bars, but minis shouldn’t get stuck in loot boxes.

Additionally, there should be a cap on daily progress, which can also be achieved in a fun way.
