“The Third World War has already begun. Putin’s Attack on Ukraine Affects Everyone
The Russian War – Weapons for Ukraine
Ukrainian Ambassador Andrii Melnyk demands new German arms deliveries. The federal government’s promise does not go far enough. He also warns: “A Russian victory in Ukraine would be the worst thing that could happen to Germany.
DUkraine’s Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk is demanding more heavy military equipment from Germany after the German government promised to supply his country with Gepard tanks. “The direction is good, but of course that won’t be enough,” said Melnyk from “Bild am Sonntag”.
Gepard tanks are 40 years old, “to defeat Russia, we need the most modern German weapons”. Therefore, Ukraine wants “quick export of 88 Leopard tanks, 100 Marder tanks, self-propelled howitzers and much more”, Melnyk said.
Melnyk also sees room for improvement in the promised financial aid for arming Ukraine. “One billion euros in aid to Ukraine is a lot. However, I would like to point out that the relief plan recently approved by the federal government for the Germans amounts to 15 billion euros.”
On Tuesday, the German government announced that it would deliver disused Gepard anti-aircraft tanks from the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) arms group to Ukraine. On Thursday, the Bundestag passed a joint motion of the traffic light parties and the Union faction, in which the delivery of heavy weapons is supported.
“Putin in his place”
Melnyk can only understand the fear of a Third World War to a limited extent. “The Third World War has already begun. Putin’s attack on Ukraine affects everyone, including the Germans, but not yet militarily,” he told the newspaper. “Putin is waging this war of annihilation against the entire West, against our value system.”
Melnyk dismissed fears that Germany could become a party to the war by supplying arms. For Krem boss Vladimir Putin, “Germany has long been a war party,” he said. “Anyone who wants to prevent his war from escalating must help us now to put Putin in his place. A Russian victory in Ukraine would be the worst thing that could happen to Germany.
According to a survey by the Insa polling institute for BamS, 73% of the inhabitants of this country fear that the war in Ukraine will degenerate into a third world war – 21% are not worried. 78% trust Putin to use nuclear weapons, 14% do not.
